The stoves and flues
we supply and install

We are not tied to one manufacturer. We fit what suits the room, the chimney and the budget, which is why we work with several brands rather than pushing one.

Stove brands

Every stove we fit is Eco Design Ready and suitable for smoke control areas. Which brand suits you comes down to the output the room needs, the size of the chamber and the look you are after.

Stoves

Clock

A popular choice for a first stove. Straightforward, well priced and available in outputs that suit most average sized living rooms without oversizing them.

Stoves

Hunter

A long established British name with a wide range of outputs and styles, from plain and traditional through to cleaner modern shapes.

Stoves

Stovax

One of the best known names in the trade, with a deep range and good parts availability. Worth considering if you want a stove you can still get glass and rope for in fifteen years.

Stoves

Mi-Fires

Contemporary shapes and good value, with a range that covers small rooms through to larger open plan spaces. Worth a look if you want a modern stove without a premium price tag.

Stoves

Portway

Clean, simple designs that sit well in a modern room or a plain chamber. A sensible option where the chamber finish is doing the work rather than the appliance.

Not sure?

Let us pick with you

Come to the Hebburn showroom and see them in person, or tell us the room size and the chimney and we will shortlist two or three that genuinely fit.

Flue and chimney systems

The part nobody asks about and the part that decides whether a stove works. We use trade systems rather than whatever is cheapest, because a liner is not something you want to do twice.

Flue systems

Mi-Flues

Flexible liners, twin wall systems and the components that go with them. A trade supplier rather than a consumer brand, which is exactly what you want behind a stove.

Flue systems

Castec

Chimney lining and flue components, including the parts that live at the top of the stack where the weather is. Specified job by job depending on the property.

Why it matters

The flue does the work

Most stove problems we are called out to are flue problems. Poor draw, smoke into the room, tar. See our flue and chimney page for how we approach it.

How we pick a stove for a room

The brand matters less than these three things. Get them wrong and the best appliance in the range will still disappoint you.

Output, not size An oversized stove run low burns dirty and tars the flue. We work the output out from the room volume rather than selling you the biggest model in the range.
What the chamber allows Depth decides whether a freestanding or inset model suits. We measure at the survey before recommending anything.
Parts in ten years Rope, glass and baffles are consumables. A brand with good parts availability is worth more over the life of the stove than a slightly cheaper one that is hard to service.
Four stoves are included in our fixed price packages Stove, hearth, chamber, beam, flue pack, building works, installation and certification, all in one price.

What Eco Design Ready actually means

Every stove we supply meets it. Worth understanding why it matters, because it is the one specification that decides whether you can legally use a stove where you live.

Since January 2022 every new stove sold in the UK has had to meet Ecodesign standards, which cap the particulates and gases an appliance can put out and set a minimum efficiency. In practice it means a modern stove burns cleaner and gets more heat out of the same log than one fitted fifteen years ago.

The part that catches people out is smoke control areas. Much of Tyne and Wear is covered by one, and in a smoke control area you can only burn authorised fuel, or use an appliance that has been exempted by DEFRA. Every stove on this page is suitable for use in a smoke control area, so it is not something you need to worry about with us.

If you already have an older stove, you are not obliged to replace it. But an Ecodesign appliance on a properly lined flue will use noticeably less fuel, which is usually the reason people change rather than the regulations.

  • EcodesignMandatory on all new stoves sold in the UK since January 2022
  • Smoke control areasCommon across Tyne and Wear. Every stove we supply is suitable for one
  • Existing stovesNo obligation to replace, though older appliances use more fuel for the same heat
  • What we supplyEco Design Ready as standard, across every brand on this page

See them lit before you decide

A stove looks different in a room to how it looks in a brochure. The Hebburn showroom has stoves from across these brands on display, along with hearths, chambers and beams, so you can see the combination rather than imagining it.

  • Stoves from several brands on display
  • Hearth and chamber finishes to compare
  • Light and dark oak beams

Questions about brands

What people ask us when they are trying to choose between one make and another.

Which brand is best?

There is no single answer, which is why we work with several. For most rooms the difference between brands at the same output is smaller than the difference between a well sized stove and an oversized one. Get the output and the flue right and any of these will do a good job.

Can you fit a stove I have bought myself?

Usually, provided it is a current appliance with the paperwork and it suits the property. We will look at it as part of the free survey. Be aware that a stove bought online is not always the one the room needs, and we will say so if it is not.

Do you fit brands that are not on this list?

Often yes. These are the ones we supply day to day and can get parts for quickly, but if you have your heart set on something else, ask. The fixed price packages are built around four specific models, so a different appliance would be quoted separately.

What about parts and servicing later on?

Rope, glass and baffles are consumables and every stove needs them eventually. It is one of the reasons we stick to established brands, because parts are still available in ten years. Worth thinking about before buying something obscure to save a hundred pounds.

Which stoves are in the fixed price packages?

Four models, all Eco Design Ready and all suitable for smoke control areas. The packages page shows what each one includes. If none of the four suit, we will price a different appliance around the same installation.

Does the brand of flue matter as much as the stove?

Arguably more. A good appliance on a poor flue will smoke, run cold and tar up, while a modest stove on a properly specified system will run beautifully. See the flue and chimney page for how we approach it.
